Jack Fisher, a disabled Navy veteran, talked Kalamazoo into cutting its kerbs in 1945. A year later he wrote to the Mayor about who the ramps had turned out to be for.
“…the ramps were instrumental in allowing disabled veterans, disabled non‑veterans, aged and infirm persons and mothers with baby carriages more freedom of movement…” “…not only benefits the disabled person alone, but benefits the community at large as well.”
